Keep a spare nest pad on hand for easy cleaning. One nest pad is included with every Best Nest Box; order extras when you need a replacement or want to rotate clean pads.
These removable brown pads are made from polyethylene resins in a grass-like configuration and are easy to clean.
Choose the size that fits your nest box:
To clean, shake or tap out loose dirt and droppings regularly. For a deeper clean, soak the pad in detergent water for a few hours, brush it clean, rinse, and let it dry completely before returning it to the nest. Replace soiled pads with clean spares during routine inspections, and do not allow excessive buildup.
Help young hens get used to the pads before they begin nesting. Place pads where the pullets can become familiar with their feel, allow them to reach the temperature of the house, and have the nests ready before introducing the flock. Similar lighting and surroundings can help ease the transition.
Keep egg residue and droppings under control to avoid attracting rodents, which can damage the pads.
