Have raised 11 hens and they are just starting to lay. Bought the best nest box and all but one are using it. I had to take the curtain off to get them to go inside and lay though. I loved how easy it was to assemble. Instructions were very clear

I delayed my review until my ladies decided it was time to lay. Well I’m happy to say that time has come and I’m so excited to give this box two enthusiastic high-fives in the air. As a first time chicken owner I was a little skeptical, ‘Would they want to go in the box?', ‘How do they know to go in the box?’ ‘Would they find that mat comfortable?’ ‘Will the community box work for my flock’ I started by lifting one side of the drapes up with a magnet (as recommended).. they would peak inside but that was about it. But the moment they started laying eggs, they went straight to that box. Instinct kicked in and I’ve had zero issues with eggs being laid in other locations. They all use it, my eggs are spotlessly clean and since I have a rooster I have zero worries of ladies sitting on those eggs too long.

My chickens are laying in the best nest box. It was a fun project to put together best nest box support were wonderful answered my questions promptly. Want to let people know it was easy to put together. I’m a new chicken mom I put the nest pads in the coop for a week or so before and in no time they were standing and laying on the pads then I set up the best nest box and put wood chips in at first now no wood chips very happy with my purchase. I live where it’s very hot
Was hesitant to spend the money but after having several plastic parts and the roosting bar break on my last plastic box, I’m very glad I did! Easy to assemble! We chose the reverse roll out option. I wasn’t sure they would use it with the curtains down but they have done great using it! If we ever have to buy one again it will be the best box!

After looking at a few different brands of nest boxes I decided to go with this one, and I am very glad I did! Also purchased the perch popper with it. Both the nesting box and the perch popper are well built and work seamlessly together. Couldn’t be happier with this purchase! Thank you!
Just bought our second roll out nest box. They are great for keeping the eggs clean and from hens going broody. We reversed the bottom opening so we can access it from outside the coop. Looking forward to taking our 1 yr old out to collect eggs without the danger of going into the coop (rooster etc.)

We initially purchased the Best Nest Box to stop our chickens from eating their eggs. However, we got so much more: Not only are we getting all the eggs, they’re super clean, the perch popper keeps the chickens out at night, and we’re now able to get them from outside of our chicken tractor. Very happy and satisfied with this purchase.

The Best Nest Box roll out nest box (also called a rollaway nest box) has a sloped floor which causes eggs to roll away from the hens to a collection area. This roll out feature keeps the eggs clean and unbroken and all in one place for easy collection.

You can collect bantam eggs in a Best Nest Box. The holes are slightly less than 1". The material in the collection area of the nest box (where the eggs end up and are collected from) is galvanized wire mesh. This material allows debris that hens bring into the nest box (dirt, manure, hay, straw, feathers, etc.) to fall down and out of the nest box rather than accumulating in the collection area and causing an unclean environment for the eggs.

Yes the Best Nest Box can be fastened to a fence. There are different ways this can be done. One idea would be to fasten two parallel pieces of wood with cable ties and then use the two eye rings attached to the nest to mount the box to the top piece of wood. The second piece of wood would run along back of the box to support the back of the box. This piece might need to be thicker or shimmed to make the nest box level from front to back.

Would be glad to help with tips specific to your situation. It is best to make the hens comply as soon as possible. 330-558-1120 Typically the coop floor needs to be made very ucomfortable and the nesting box attractive to the hens. Load the nest with bedding. Sometimes it helps to block the egg tray to keep the bedding inside the nest.

If you are going to have 30 hens, I would recommend 1 large nest box. There is no negative to having a larger nest box then what is needed. The average in the USA among farmers is 50 to 60 hens per large nest box. Some backyard flock owners, prefer to allow less birds per nest box. If a backyard flock owner has multiple breeds, they might also like to have more room in the nest box for their hens. There are differing opinions on the exact number of hens per community nest box. For example, a backyard chicken keeper might allow 12 hens per medium nest and a farmer might collect eggs from 30 hens in their medium nest box.

No template is provided. The dimensions of the hole depend on the thickness of the coop wall. This is a rough idea of the size of the hole based on the thickness of the coop wall. The length of the box is 24 5/16" so the hole should be slightly longer. Height of hole 1" thick wall - 6.5 to 7" tall 4" thick wall - 11.5 to 12" tall
